Jennifer Durkin
I have worked at Kiddies Korner Preschool for the past 30 years and was a
parent at the preschool for three years, one prior to becoming the Early
Childhood Educator and two while my youngest daughter was at Kiddies Korner
and I was her teacher.
Children have always been my passion and during my years of working with
them, I realize why I enjoy my job so much. Every day is different and the
wonder and enthusiasm that I see in them, makes my work so worthwhile. I
continue to enjoy working with parents and I believe that, together, we can
make a difference in the future of our children. Parents learn from me as
well as from each other and I learn a great deal from them so everyone wins.
I have had the pleasure of teaching several children of students who I
taught when they were three or four and have also taught two of my own
grandchildren so Kiddies Korner truly is a family affair.
On a personal note, I have been married to Kelly for 37 years and have three
grown daughters and seven grandchildren, ranging in age from 13 to 2.We are
a very close family who spend a lot of time together and enjoying spending
time at our place at Black Mountain Ranch in Washington State.
I hope that everyone who chooses Kiddies Korner as the preschool where they
want to bring their children, will enjoy the community spirit and support
that is so evident within the group.
Congratulations to our very special teacher Jennifer Durkin. In 2008
Jennifer was in Ottawa to receive The Prime Minister's Award for
Excellence in Early Childhood Education! The parents of Kiddies'
Korner students past and present are thrilled the rest of Canada
now knows, what we in Port Coquitlam have known all along, Jennifer
Durkin is the best!
In 2007, Jennifer Durkin was also awarded the Goldie Maycock Award
for excellence in preschool teaching from the Council of Parent
Participation Preschools of BC.
